Symbology Activity 1: What is a map?

“What is a map?” helps learners understand that maps can tell different stories - not just where places are, but how people experience them. Through hands‑on activities with loose‑parts materials, pupils explore what makes places meaningful and how visual symbols can express those ideas.

Symbology Activity 2: Making animated symbols for a collective map

Symbology workshop 2 builds on the first session by showing learners how to turn their ideas into simple animated symbols for a collective map. Using tablets and easy‑to‑use animation software, pupils explore how movement and design can help communicate what places mean to them.
